game 6 highlights
This game was more than over as Malkin scored a hat trick against the Jackets. Up 4-0 in the third period the season looked over and done with when Fedor Tyutin scored the first goal of the game after the mid way point of the last period. After that, they seemed to catch fire and scored 2 more goals to make the game 4-3 with a few minutes left. Even though the young team gave a valiant effort, they did fall short and were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Penguins. I personally feel as though they should be proud of the effort and look forward to the next CBJ season. They are building the organization in the right way and think that they will be playoff contenders for years to come.

CBJ Game 2 Playoff Highlights
Congratulations!!! The Blue Jackets won their first ever playoff game in franchise history. They beat the Pittsburgh Penguins in Pittsburgh which is not an easy feat at any point of the season. Ironically the CBJ were down 3-1 and came back to win just as the Pens did in game 1. When the superstar laden Penguins went up 3-1 I thought that they had figured out that Columbus was a real threat and that just showing up was not going to be good enough. However, they got complacent and like the first game played undisciplined hockey. Penalties and dumb plays along with letting their guard down seemed to let the harder working Blue Jackets to make a full comeback and send the game into overtime tied at 3.
In overtime, Columbus just kept outworking the Pens who had more shots on goal, won more faceoffs, and out hit them 51-28. The Jackets kept up the intensity even though they were down 3-1 in the first period. after that they shut down one of the leagues most potent offenses, giving up nothing to them for the rest of the game. Good defense, great goaltending, and hard work gave them their first playoff win ever. This is also the first win of the season for Columbus against the Pens, they were swept during the regular season by Pittsburgh. The series is now tied 1-1 with the next game in Columbus Monday night.
When the Columbus Blue Jackets brought in John Davidson to be the President of Hockey Operations everyone knew that they were going to be successful. It wasn't going to be if, but when he would turn things around. He came from the St. Louis Blues and definitely knows what he is doing.
Unlike Mike Holmgren taking over the Cleveland Browns organization, J.D. as he is known as had a propensity for winning, even at the top of the organization. I had believed in Holmgren to turn things around in Cleveland and was let down by his arrogance and unwillingness to hire people to do what they needed to. Davidson has a true gameplan and continues to work hard to hire the right people to carry out this plan. No matter what happens to the CBJ this year, their winning ways are here to stay, J.D. will make sure of that.

Cbj game 1 playoff highlights
Nice effort by the upstart Jackets. They were out shot 34-32, but took their first ever lead in a playoff game. They actually lead 3-1 right at the start of the 2nd period, but within one minute after Derek Mackenzie scored a short handed goal, Pittsburgh answers right back! Matt Niskanen scores on a shot from the point, that made the score 3-2 and brought back a flash of hope. It was about a minute later that the Pens tied it with a Power play goal by Matt Niskanen! Momentum had shifted but things were tied and would stay that way until the 3rd period when at the 11:41 mark, Brandon Sutter scored and gave the Pens their first lead of the game.
They would smother the Columbus offense from there and survive a scare from the young Jackets who put up a great fight. I am looking forward to game #2 Saturday night. I predicted that Columbus will win their 1st playoff game ever, and you can vote your thoughts on my polls page.

The Blue Jackets are very fresh to this whole postseason thing. The franchise has only been to the playoffs just once before (in 2009 under Ken Hitchcock) but left as quickly as they arrived, being swept in the first round by Detroit. While winning one game would be nice, the Jackets will hardly be content just with that.
Since the middle of the season, few teams have played better than the Blue Jackets while the Penguins have been anything but crisp for a couple of months now (their more than 500-man games lost this season don't help the aesthetic value). They have seemed ripe to be upset in the first round while the Jackets have looked potentially strong as a wild card in the East. There are a lot of signs that could point toward a first ever Blue Jackets playoff series win.
Naturally, there is a lot that points the Penguins' way too. Having Sidney Crosby is a pretty big feather in your cap and though they still have some holes with injuries -- the biggest being Evgeni Malkin -- they are still a team capable of a lot of damage.
It's just that this isn't a matchup that has been good for the Jackets at all in their first season in the East. The new Metropolitan Division rivals met five times this season and all five games went to Pittsburgh. In fact, the Jackets didn't earn even a point in any of those games. It should be noted, though, that only one of those games took place after the New Year and the two teams are playing much differently now than they were at the end of 2013.
Every year there always seems to be a bottom seed that sneaks up and at least scares the daylights out of a No. 1. This could be as good of a candidate as any.
